About Mindwtr

Mindwtr implements Getting Things Done as an actual workflow, not a marketing sticker. Everything you capture lands in an Inbox, unprocessed; later you clarify each item - actionable, part of a project, waiting on someone, or someday - and tasks move to Next, Waiting For or Someday while projects break big plans into steps. A guided weekly review handles the loose ends, the part of GTD everyone skips and then wonders why the system collapsed.

The Focus view shows today's schedule and next actions in one place, and by default shows only the task you are working on instead of the whole mountain. It is the antidote to opening your to-do app for one thing and emerging twenty minutes later having reorganized everything.

The deal is unusually clean: free forever, works offline, no account at all. Your tasks live on your device, sync is opt-in with plumbing you choose (iCloud, Dropbox, a shared folder, WebDAV or your own server), and export and backups are built in. An AI assistant exists but is off by default, running on your own API key or an on-device model. Imports from Todoist, TickTick and OmniFocus make switching cheap. Runs on macOS, Windows, Linux, iOS and Android, translated into 23 languages, AGPL-3.0. One trade-off to know: it is a one-person system - no shared workspaces or task assignment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Mindwtr really free?

Yes. No account, no subscription, no trial period. The app is open source under AGPL-3.0 and works fully offline.

How does sync work?

It is opt-in and you choose the plumbing: iCloud, Dropbox, a shared folder, WebDAV or your own server. Without it, your tasks simply stay on the device.

Can I move my existing tasks over?

Yes. Mindwtr imports from Todoist, TickTick and OmniFocus, and built-in export and backups make leaving just as easy.
